Ron DeSantis' "freedom to choose" executive order that allows parents to choose whether their children should wear masks in school.
More: Duval Schools announces adults-only mask mandate. In the original policy sent to principals Thursday, the diocese required masks be worn indoors for all employees, faculty, staff and students.
The mandate was "based on the Florida Department of Health data showing a high positivity rate in North Florida counties with Catholic schools," according to the statement.
The policy was revised after the diocese received DeSantis' executive order that was issued Friday. But the diocese will require visitors to wear masks at this time and schools will limit the number of visitors allowed. Also, all positive cases among employees, faculty, staff and students must be reported to the diocese school superintendent and the Florida Department of Health.
