Wow that was a lot harder than I thought it would be maybe the snow is the reason because it was slippery and deep in places. Also I think the trail has been modified as it now includes a very steep part just before getting to the half mile finishing stretch. I'm out of shape too!
Road is still closed to trailhead. It was absolutely beautiful all day, and even at the summit it was sunny and not too windy with blue skies. I got to the summit in about 3 hours and 20 minutes, going very quickly. Trailhead start to finish took me exactly 6 hours. Wonderful trail that is very challenging but rewarding. Did it with 2 other guys coming straight from missouri.
We acclimated for 2 days before the hike and it helped getting up to that altitude. This was our first 14er and the other two in my group did zero prep. I ran between every other day 2 weeks before the trip and it showed when we were making our final push.
We took between L of water a piece and all ran out by the time we reached the tree line on the way down. There is no where to fill water on this trail.
The extra 2 miles with the trail head being closed was frustrating when there was no work being done to the road.
The views were killer and we were able to avoid the afternoon showers it started sprinkling when we made it to the car. Some trash along the trail which was disappointing, we all ended up with pocketfuls of wrappers and other small trash pieces along or next to the trail.
Temperature was around 28f when we started and almost 80 at the car. The weather change past the tree line for us depended on the wind.
When the wind was blowing it was at least degrees colder but not uncomfortable. People of all sizes and ages were at the top. Beautiful trail! Appropriate challenge for being Colorado's tallest peak. After a beautiful stroll through forest, it became pretty steep above treeline.
Plenty of dispersed camping spots along Halfmoon road. The views of other distant mountains with snow dusting was incredible!! No amount of preparation can prepare you for this! Trail can be followed pretty much through the tree line but then when you get out of the trees be prepared for a massive amounts of rocks on the trail.
The trail is rocky and narrow at a lot of points. We cried once we reached the top. The most exhausting, physically, mentally and emotionally experience ever. Going down is just as hard as going up. Just a little less exertion on your lungs. My review is just the tip of the experience. Great trail. Some hiker must have moved the "road closed" sign, or else the forest service got their wires crossed and removed it too early. When I got down from the mountain today there was a grumpy ranger asking for everyone's ID to try to figure out how the sign got moved.
Conditions are great! Awesome views of fall foliage in the distance right now. Good news - the road to the trailhead is open! No idea if this is permanent or temporary but it was open today. Denver Bewertungen. Mehr anzeigen Weniger anzeigen. Reviews 4.

Colorado is best known for stunning landscapes with mountains, forests, rivers, and more. It is a great place for many outdoor activities like skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and camping. What are the surrounding states to Colorado? What is the nickname of Colorado? Colorado is known as the centennial state as it became a state one century after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The word Colorado comes from the Spanish words color red. The name comes from early Spanish explorers that named it after noticing the reddish color silt from the Colorado river.
